Slip-and-fall accidents happen more than most people realize

The vast majority of Maine residents visit a store or restaurant at some point every day. Although most public establishments across the state are safe and welcome visitors, it's always a good idea to be on the lookout for potential hazards. Cleaning supplies or tools left lying on the ground from routine maintenance are examples of things that can cause slip-and-fall accidents. If a customer or visitor is injured as a result of hazardous conditions in a store or restaurant, the business owner(s) could possibly be held accountable financially.

A woman in another state filed a lawsuit against Walmart over claims that she was injured due to dangerous conditions in a store she visited. According to the lawsuit, the woman was near in the infant department and encountered an uneven floorboard. The plaintiff claims this caused her to fall and hit her head on the ground.

Allegedly, the woman suffered severe injuries to her body as well as mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life. Medical treatment of her alleged injuries caused her substantial monetary loss, the woman says. The plaintiff seeks to hold the owners of the Walmart store responsible. She claims that they allowed hazardous conditions to exist and failed to provide warning to customers.

It's a fact of life that accidents are going to happen. However, a lot of accidents in businesses can be prevented by taking a few basic precautions such as keeping floors clean and free of hazards. When the negligence of property or business owners results in slip-and-fall accidents, victims in Maine may be able to take legal action. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help victims with any financial difficulties that may have occurred as a result of this difficult experience.
