Medical negligence ruins thousands of lives every year

In Maine and across the United States, those seeking medical assistance expect to be treated with an acceptable level of care. Patients place their lives in the hands of capable doctors and nurses, but these medical professionals may sometimes deviate from the accepted standard of care. This is considered medical negligence and could cause permanent injury and even the death of the patient.

A doctor in another state has been accused of implanting a birth control device in a woman without her knowledge. The woman said she underwent a procedure to remove uterine cysts about 10 years ago. The woman alleged that she told the doctor she wished to have children in the future and wanted to preserve her fertility. According to claims, the doctor inserted a plastic intrauterine device in the woman's body during the surgery without her consent.

The woman claims that she did not find out about the foreign object until the device broke, forcing her to undergo another surgery to remove it. She asserts that the doctor purposely concealed the implantation of the device. Reportedly, the woman has filed a lawsuit against the doctor over claims that the alleged negligence caused her to suffer infertility, as well as emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life.

Naturally, there is always risk associated with medical care. Patients across the country trust that they are placing their lives in capable hands when they undergo a procedure. Tragically, thousands of people every year suffer injuries due to medical negligence. In Maine, medical professionals can be held accountable for negligence. By filing a claim, victims and families could receive compensation to counteract any financial losses and aid in recovery.
