Reckless driving contributes to more motor vehicle accidents

Driving these days can be a difficult task on crowded and congested roads across Maine. As traffic increases across the state, reckless driving is becoming a very dangerous problem. Some drivers may not be as experienced as others, so it is not uncommon for mistakes to occur. Reckless driving habits are a major cause of motor vehicle accidents. According to recent statistics, reckless driving accounts for over 33 percent of deaths in all accidents.

A recent accident in Berwick that claimed the lives of four people may have been caused by reckless driving. According to reports, a Ford Explorer was traveling on a Portland Street when a Honda Civic suddenly pulled into the path of the Ford. Reportedly, the driver of the Honda made an improper pass and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicles violently collided.

Police said the driver of the Honda was killed, along with two other passengers. A passenger in the Ford was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to authorities. The driver of the Ford and another passenger were also taken to a hospital with injuries, reports said.

With so many vehicles sharing the same roads these days, accidents become almost inevitable. However, reckless driving greatly increases the odds for motor vehicle accidents. One of the most important things drivers can do to prevent accidents is to slow down. Maine families who have suffered the loss of a loved one in accidents such as this one can benefit by seeking the services of a knowledgeable attorney. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help struggling families during this time.
